NMDC - National Microbiome Data Collaborative
Project Overview
The National Microbiome Data Collaborative (NMDC) is a data portal is built in collaboration of LBNL, PNNL and Kitware to support microbiome data exploration and discovery through a collaborative, integrative data science ecosystem. The primary goal is to democratize microbiome data science by providing access to multi-omics microbiome data to support reproducible, cross-study analyses aligned with the FAIR data principles.
My Role
This is currently on going project and my role is to work with stakeholders including SMEs, developers, researchers and users etc to gather requirements, create wireframes/prototypes, present UI ideas, generate mockups, iterations to refine the mockups, export assets for implementation, work with developers throughout the implementation process, delegating tasks to other designer as needed, UI maintenance including optimization, usability, evaluation and testing.
History

In January 2019, Berkeley Lab was formally tasked by the DOE Office of Biological and Environmental Research to develop a pilot NMDC as a non-competed program.
The NMDC was initiated in July 2019 as a pilot project led by Berkeley Lab, in partnership with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). And Kitware to build the Software.

Collaborating on wireframes for the search workflow with stakeholders from Berkeley University, LANL Lab, PNNL Lab, ORNL Labs, and Kitware.
